In the refurbishment of old terraces and balconies, especially those finished with ceramic tiles, technical challenges are often significant: irregular substrates, deteriorated joints, moisture accumulation and loss of coating cohesion.
Faced with this reality, Eagle Waterproofing presents an integrated solution capable of addressing these challenges quickly, efficiently, durably and sustainably: the combination of UltraPrime REG and Ultraflex.
Degraded roofs with ceramic tile finishes
Terraces and roofs finished with tiles are part of the traditional architectural landscape. However, over time, the joints become empty, the surface loses its levelness and the surface gets uneven.
In addition, retained moisture accelerates the degradation of materials, creating a complex problem for most conventional waterproofing systems.
Recently, Eagle Waterproofing participated in the refurbishment of a terrace that presented exactly this scenario: a heavily damaged coating, open joints and detached tile areas caused by accumulated moisture.
UltraPrime REG: to level, consolidate and prepare
As a first step, the old coating was removed and the surface thoroughly cleaned.
Once the substrate was ready, UltraPrime REG —a self-levelling epoxy resin specially designed for extreme conditions— was applied.
Application was carried out with a roller around the perimeter in a thin layer to seal porosity, and with a rubber squeegee on the flat areas in a thicker layer to fill joints and level the substrate.
The main advantages of UltraPrime REG are:
- Levels and consolidates deteriorated substrates.
- Fills empty joints without adding moisture, drastically reducing waiting times.
- Allows the waterproofing membrane to be applied after only 3 hours.
- Acts as a vapour barrier.
- Allows the addition of mineral fillers to optimise consumption in projects requiring significant regularisation, making the product more competitive and adaptable to each site.
Ultraflex: reinforced and continuous waterproofing
Once the substrate was prepared, the Ultraflex wet-on-wet system was applied — a fully reinforced liquid membrane ensuring a constant thickness across the entire surface.
This technology provides a homogeneous coating that adapts perfectly to the irregularities typical of ceramic tile surfaces, offering a high-performance waterproofing protection.
As a final finish, Ultratop WR was applied — a coating resistant to heavy traffic and standing water, ideal for walkable roofs.
The complete system — UltraPrime REG + Ultraflex + Ultratop WR — offers warranties of up to 25 years, ensuring long-lasting and efficient protection.
Thanks to this intervention, the roof was restored without the need to replace the original tiles, reducing time, cost and environmental impact.
The result: a fully renewed, waterproof, walkable surface, technically optimised for long-term performance.
